Traffic situation around A2 at Hooggelegen (Utrecht) to change again on several occasions in the summer of 2010
The traffic situation at the A2 interchange at Hooggelegen is set to change in the coming summer months of 2010. This will be a summer of work on sound barriers and construction of main and parallel lanes on this stretch of the A2. In order to be able to cause the least inconvenience during these works, the traffic situation will be changed on a number of occasions this summer. Connecting roads from the Oudenrijn junction will as a result be closed regularly during the night and on weekends. Road users will be informed by means of yellow roadside signs. People are advised to heed the information provided by these signs.
Vialis's activities on the A2 at Hooggelegen
Vialis supplies electronic systems for this stretch of motorway, targeting the prevention of inconvenience for motorists. Contractors are generally judged on how many lanes they can keep open while road works are ongoing. In case of the A2 Hooggelegen project, the available road capacity in itself is not by definition indicative of the contractor's efficiency, as the wider concept of traffic flow will be used to judge the contractor.
By monitoring, informing and advising motorists, the contractor aims to realise optimum traffic flow. Not only on and around the stretch in question, but also in conjunction with the many other major ongoing projects in the area. Vialis's wide-ranging expertise and skills form a key asset for this work.
Wherever the building work affects the traffic situation, the Traffic Management team minimises inconvenience for road users. Vialis contributes to that through traffic by modelling, drawing up monitoring plans and having these executed, and by playing a role in the setting up of Dynamic Traffic Management in a regional context.
A2 Hooggelegen Project
The A2 motorway between Amsterdam and Maastricht is being upgraded at various locations. Additional lanes are laid between Amsterdam and Utrecht. The work on this 27-kilometre stretch has been split up into a number of sub-projects. The A2 Hooggelegen Project is one of them and covers 1.7 kilometres of motorway.
The northern end of this stretch links up with the new Leidsche Rijn tunnel and the southern end borders with the Oudenrijn junction project, where the A2 and the A12 meet.
Apart from that, major maintenance work is underway on the bridge across the Amsterdam-Rhine Channel, and work on a connecting road between the new Leidsche Rijn district and the centre of Utrecht and the building of the Marinus van Tyrus Fly-over, both commissioned by the city of Utrecht, are also ongoing.
Work is also going into the broadening of the motorway elsewhere on the A2. Check www.rijkswaterstaat.nl/A2 for the latest information.
